About Us

The Garden Class of  the Woman’s Community Club of Uwchlan (WCCU) was founded in 1934. In 2020, the WCCU was dissolved due to lack of interest and members became the Uwchlan Garden Club (UGC).  We have 81 members and are affiliated with National Garden Clubs, Inc. (NGC), Central Atlantic Region of State Garden Clubs, Inc. (CAR-SGC), and the Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania (GCFP).

The Uwchlan Garden Club (the “Corporation”) is incorporated under the Nonprofit Corporation Law of 1988 of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (the “NCL”) for exclusively charitable, educational, religious, literary and/or scientific purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended (or the corresponding provision of any successor United States Internal Revenue Law) (the “Code”). In furtherance of the Corporation’s purposes, the Corporation will engage in charitable activities, including, but not limited to, educating individuals about gardening, conserving and preserving local buildings and landscapes and making distributions for charitable purposes.

Monthly meetings are held at the 1756 Uwchlan Meeting House, 5 North Village Avenue, Lionville, PA at 11:00 A.M. on the 4th Thursday of each month, unless otherwise noted. During our monthly meetings we have the opportunity to display flower designs and horticulture for judging and participate in challenge classes. Our programs include presentations on plants, design, and conservation; workshops; and tours of local gardens.

We hold a spring flower show in the 1756 Uwchlan Meeting House every other year. On alternate years, we are active in the fall multi-club Longwood Gardens Flower Show. Our annual plant sale is held on the Saturday before Mother’s Day and includes member plants, shrubs, trees, container gardens, and garden crafts. We gather and bunch fresh evergreens for making wreaths and swags, make container gardens, and design table arrangements for our annual Christmas Fair, the 1st Saturday in December. We sponsor a scholarship, provide horticultural therapy in a local nursing home, and have a ‘Sprouts’ program for youth. Our members also serve as hostesses when the 1756 Uwchlan Meeting House is open to the public for tours the 1st Sunday of each month, 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M., from April to November.

Meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of each month; the meeting is canceled if the Downingtown Area School District (#876) is closed.
